“ES MUY BUENA PERSONA
Una investigació sobre línies, identitat i pertinença
Una investigación sobre líneas, identidad y pertenencia
An investigation into lines, identity and belonging”
“Es muy Buena Persona” (He is a Very Good Person) is an artistic investigation by Sana López Abellán centered on lines as physical, historical, and identity-laden symbols. The project explores the relationship between trace, memory, and belonging, blending a personal perspective with both material and conceptual research. It stems from the artist’s family history as the daughter of a Spanish exile raised abroad, and her connection to the silenced past of the Spanish Civil War and Francoism.
Through her grandfather’s archive (he was a prisoner in a concentration camp) and her father’s legacy as an expert in Francoist censorship, Sana offers a reflection on identity and absence. The line, understood as a connection, a border, or a memory, becomes the thread that guides a practice combining theory, textiles, and territory.
The long-term culmination will be the creation of a haima, a symbolic tent, embroidered with elements from the research, conceived as a space for encounter and transmission. This preliminary phase of the project focuses on documents from the family archive, their historical content, the construction of identity, and the role of abstraction.
